(Tsinghua News Center) Tsinghua University celebrated its 93rd anniversary April 24-25, bringing together graduates from as many as six decades past for a weekend of reunions, arts performances and sports matches.
In his address to alumni at the opening ceremony, President Gu Binglin said, “The key to the ongoing development and greatness of Tsinghua University lies in the fact that we have brought up groups of prestigious people who are now the pillars of the state.”
During his speech, he expressed his gratitude to the alumni from both home and abroad who have embodied the Tsinghua motto: “Self-discipline and Social Commitment.”
Each school and department celebrated the anniversary, or Xiaoqing, in its own way. One of the highlights was the Forum of Younger Alumni, sponsored by the Tsinghua Alumni Association, the Tsinghua Graduate Association, and the graduate association of the Department of Computer Science. During the forum, students met with four prestigious alumni in the field of information technology who discussed their life and work.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Department of Electronic Engineering announced the establishment of the E-Friend Foundation, aimed to help students with financial difficulties. Eighteen alumni or faculties donated 25,800 yuan to start the foundation.
A series of concerts, field and track events and other student activities were held throughout the weekend in honor of the returning alumni.
