Prof. Robert A. Mundell, the Nobel Prize Winner of 1999 in Economics, visited Tsinghua University on September 13. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met and had a friendly talk with Prof. Mundell.
After the talk, Prof. Mundell made a speech titled “China’s Stunning Progress Since 1978” in School of Economics and Management and answered questions raised by the seated students. Prof. Zhao Chunjun, Dean of School of Economics and Management, delivered the welcoming speech.
The visiting delegation also included Prof. Zhu Jingwu, President of the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Prof. Liu Zunyi, President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Mr. Luo Kangrui, board chairman of Shui on Group in Hong Kong.
Prof. Mundell received Ph.D. from M.I.T. in 1956, and was the Post-Doctoral Fellow in Political Economy at the University of Chicago in 1956-1957. Since 1974, Prof. Mundell has been professor of Economics at Columbia University. He received the Distinguished Fellow Award from the American Economic Association in 1997, and was made a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in October 1998. In 1999, he received the Nobel Prize in Economics.
