An opening ceremony was held for the new graduate students of 2005 on the afternoon of Aug. 25.
University Council Chairman Chen Xi, Vice President He Jiankun, and other senior administrators attended the gathering for the more than 4,000 incoming students.
In his welcoming address, Professor Chen encouraged the students to develop their love for science as well as their innovative spirit. He said he hoped that they would bear in mind the university motto of “Rigor, Diligence, Veracity, and Creativity,” and work hard in their research and studies.
Registration for the graduate students was held on August 23. Tsinghua enrolled 1,084 doctoral students and 3,054 master’s students in 2005.
