World Health Forum Media Briefing Addresses Pandemic Preparedness

Tsinghua University’s Vanke School of Public Health and the Global Communications Office played host to the 3rd World Health Forum Media Briefing and "Tsinghua Salon" media gathering event on October 26. This gathering drew over 20 major media outlets, including CGTN, People's Daily, South China Morning Post, and several others.

The event commenced with the unveiling of the 2023 global branding video, entitled "We Pursue the Light." This video symbolizes Tsinghua's unwavering commitment to advancing global public health through innovative research, practical exploration, educational excellence, and community service.

Dr Margaret Chan, Founding Dean of the Vanke School of Public Health, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the media representatives and underscored the School's commitment to addressing both international and domestic health challenges in alignment with China's national development strategy. “Humanity will still face more complex public health challenges. So, it is imperative for all nations and regions to pay attention, reflect, summarize, reach consensus, build collaboration,” said Dean Chan as she elaborated on the rationale behind this year’s forum.

In his enlightening keynote speech, Executive Vice-Dean Prof. LIANG Wannian elaborated on the preparations for the forthcoming 3rd World Health Forum. He emphasized the critical need for global preparedness as pandemics have become more frequent and unpredictable, with potentially devastating consequences.

The 3rd World Health Forum, scheduled for November 4-5, will revolve around the theme of "Preparing the World for the Next Pandemic." The forum is set to explore topics of utmost importance, including "Strengthen Health System Construction and Technology," "Social Mobilization and Preparedness," "Strategy for Pandemic Response," "Technology Empowerment" and so on. Its overarching mission is to establish institutional mechanisms and enhance technological innovation, thereby equipping the world to effectively counter pandemic challenges and create a global community of common health for mankind.

The event also featured insightful contributions from students and researchers. Dhakal Dilip, a Nepali student from the International Master of Public Health Program, shared his educational journey, emphasizing the vital role Tsinghua plays in shaping future healthcare leaders. Additionally, Zhang Shihui, an assistant researcher at Tsinghua University's Department of Earth System Science, provided a glimpse into her research on "Response to Climate Change with Health at the Core."

The 3rd World Health Forum represents a significant step forward in the global dialogue on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. It serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovative solutions to ensure a healthier and safer future for all.
