The Ted Belytschko Applied Mechanics Division Award was awarded to Professor Feng Xue of Tsinghua University on the 2nd of November. It is the first time this award has been given to a Chinese scholar since its establishment in 1988.
The Ted Belytschko Applied Mechanics Division Award, formerly known as the Applied Mechanics Award, is one of the most prestigious accolades in the field of mechanics. Established in 1988 and named in honor of Ted Belytschko since 2008, a master of computational mechanics and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, this award is presented by the Applied Mechanics Division of the ASME to an outstanding individual for significant contributions in engineering mechanics. Over the years, only 37 scholars have received this award.
Professor Feng is the founding director of the Laboratory of Flexible Electronics Technology, Tsinghua University, which is the first state key laboratory of Flexible Electronics. He is also the director of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Applied Mechanics.
Professor Feng has long been engaged in research on solid mechanics and flexible electronics technology. The award recognizes his fundamental contributions to flexible devices, as he revealed the adhesion mechanism of heterogeneous interface and pioneered the transfer printing techniques.
