The celebration of Li Guoding’s Ninetieth Birthday was held in SOE on April 23. Li Guoding, a famous educator and scientist in civil & environmental engineering and nuclear environmental engineering, was granted the “Outstanding Contribution Award” by SOE on the celebration.
Han Jingyang, Deputy Secretary of Tsinghua University Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Qu Geping, expert in environmental science and a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Liu Hongliang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the celebration and delivered speeches. Han extended her congratulations to Li on behalf of the President of Tsinghua University Gu Binlin, and Secretary of Tsinghua Committee of the CPC Hu Heping. She also spoke highly of Li’s contribution of education and research in environmental protection for more than 60 years. Qu looked back upon the old days when he and Li discussed environmental problems and policy-makings together, and appreciated Li’s enormous contribution at the beginning of China’s environmental business. Liu expressed his congratulations and hoped for a reunion on Li’s hundredth birthday.
Professor Tang Xiaoyan of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Peking University, who is also the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Hao Jiming of SOE and also the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhou Yu, Secretary of the Institute of Nuclear And New Energy Technology of Tsinghua Committee of the CPC, and Yu Gang, Dean of SOE delivered speeches and spoke highly of Li’s spirit of innovation and devotion. Teng Teng, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and also the former Vice-President of Tsinghua University, Li Ganjie, Vice-Minister of Environmental Protection, Professor Wu Liangyong of School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, and who is also the Academician of both the Chinese Academy of Science and Engineering, Professor Qian Yi of SOE, who is also the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the relatives of Li Guoding, alumni and all faculty of SOE attended the celebration, which is presided over by the Secretary of SOE Committee of the CPC Du Pengfei.
