The 61st Academic Salon of Environment invited Professor Reckhow of University of Massachusetts to give a lecture on “Chlorination of Water &Public Health” on May 6.
Reckhow first introduced the history of disinfectant forwater safety. Chlorination, as the most widely used disinfection method, has benefi ted the public health, but also has hidden risks whose needs need to be unraveled. Research suggests that disinfection by-products (DBPs) would be produced in the disinfection process, some of which are carcinogenic. Reckhow introduced his research on the formation mechanism and toxicity of DBPs.
